This hefty gal has a jaw like a vice grip, not to mention a desire for destruction to make even the most vicious shark blush with shame.

But fear not, fellow dog lover! With the right chew toy, you can satisfy your pup’s destructive urges while keeping your shoes and furniture safe.

We offer the best chew toys for your power puppy, from tough rope bones to wear-and-tear-resistant rubber toys.

The Best Chew Toy for a American Bully/bulldog Mix

Durability and hardness are two prime factors you must have in mind when searching for the best chew toy to suit your American Bulldog/Bulldog mix.

Here are some tough and sturdy options that may withstand even the strongest chewer in the family:

Tuffy Brand Toys

The Tuffy dog toys do not appear to be long-lasting when given to an experienced chewer. They are bright and colourful, typically resembling animals or dinosaurs.

More importantly, they are soft fabric toys. If you have a chewing dog, you’re probably going to pass over the Tuffy line of toys. But it would be a mistake.

Tuffy toys are robust because they are designed to last. The toys are made of durable materials, and each portion contains three to seven rows of stitching.

Even more astounding, the textiles used are luggage-grade, which means they can withstand some punishment before tearing, and each toy can have up to four layers of this material, including protective webbing.

Toys with squeakers to hold a dog’s interest also include protection compartments, which means it will take your dog longer to get to them and more than enough time for you to go to the toy and get rid of the squeaker.

When producing its products, this company considers your dog’s safety. If that doesn’t persuade you, consider this: my dog (a 50-pound pit bull rescue) has three Tuffy products.

While he eventually manages to open each toy and remove the stuffing, he has not lost interest in them. Even if the toy is an empty skin, he brings it out to show people and play with. These are my dog’s favourite toys.

Meet The Hurley

 The Hurley

The Hurley does not appear to be very durable; it is an oblong, stick-shaped chew toy that a dog can gnaw, similar to a bone.

Unlike a bone, a Hurley will not break apart and potentially damage the dog.

They’re durable enough to endure some severe gnawing and flexible enough to hold your dog’s attention for weeks.

Ropes

Ropes

Ropes appear to be a no-brainer for most persons who chew heavily. However, in recent years, the basic dog rope has lost much of its attractiveness, which is a shame.

These toys, while simple, can handle a lot of everyday doggy attention. I’ve heard of individuals acquiring sea-toughened rope from boats and ships, but if you take the time to get a nice rope, store-bought ropes work just as well.

In my experience, the most durable ropes for heavy chewers have a large knotted middle with the remainder of the rope extending from each side.

The least lasting and most messy are those that have a ball—usually a tennis ball—with the rope poked through the middle.

Regardless of which rope you choose, your dog will adore chewing it. Some people (and dogs) enjoy tug-of-war with ropes, while others (like my dog) simply want you to hold the rope while they chew it.

Choosing dog ropes for your dog to chew has the added benefit of cleaning your dog’s teeth—the strands of rope function like dental floss!

The Staffy Ball

The Staffy Ball

The Staffy Ball is less well-known and difficult to get outside of Australia, but boy, can these balls work!

The Staffy Ball (named after the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, a popular breed in both Australia and the United Kingdom and the smaller ancestor of the pit bull) is an extremely durable dog toy, and Aussie Dog Products, the company that makes them, has documentation to prove it.

They gave Staffy Balls for imprisoned zoo lions to play with. And the best part? Even the lions could not break them. That’s correct.

Even a lion pride cannot smash these balls because they are so strong and resilient. Have they scratched them up? Of course, they are lions. However, the evidence remains that these balls are incredibly strong.

Even something that is frequently neglected with dog toys is that some dogs, particularly strong chewers, prefer to do more than just chew. Some dogs enjoy playing with balls. My dog refuses to fetch but enjoys playing with balls on his own.

However, he consistently destroys normal balls. For these dogs, the Staffy Ball is ideal; too tough to break, dogs who chew too rough with normal balls may still have all the fun of a ball with a Staffy Ball.

Some dogs enjoy pushing a ball around, much like they would play soccer with it. Staffy Balls are also suitable for these breeds of dogs.

Kong

Peanut butter is the standard

The Kong is a must-have for any dog owner, whether they have a tough chewer. A Kong is a rubber toy shaped like a smooth, hollow pinecone and is well-known for its durability. The best aspect about a Kong is that if your dog loses interest in the toy.

You can add food to the inside portion to keep him chewing and licking his way to happiness. Although peanut butter is the main filling, Kong also provides a variety of other delicious fillings.

Note: While the regular-shaped Kong toys are durable, the alternative shapes can be fragile. The Kong Frisbee, in particular, will not last long against a voracious chewer.
